Alternate history quotes from famous people?

I saw (and contributed to) a post like this on another internet board, and it caught my imagination.

Here's a few of mine -

"Mr. Lincoln, I have decided to accept your offer of command of the Union Army." - Robert E. Lee

"I don鈥檛 give a sh** that the communists are getting stronger in the cities. Those reds鈥檒l never overthrow us, so we don鈥檛 need any damn programs to undercut their appeal. Let the hobos starve." - Franklin Roosevelt to Harry Hopkins

"You鈥檙e hired." - baseball scout for the N.Y. Yankees to University of Havana pitcher Fidel Castro

"Better not mess with the CIA. They鈥檝e got all those assassination teams overseas, and we wouldn鈥檛 want them to bring one of them home, now would we?" - John F. Kennedy to his brother Robert

"Houston, we鈥檝e thought about it, and we鈥檝e decided not to wait till the next mission. Instead of just doing the test flight, we鈥檙e going to take the lander all the way down to the lunar surface." - the crew of Apollo 10

"You know, that Franklin fellow has a good point. If we wish to tax the colonies to defray the expense of the just-concluded war with the French, they have the right, as British subjects, to representation in Parliament. Let us create thirteen new seats for them in the Commons."

George III to Grenville, 1765

"I'm actually not all that eager for military conquest. I think I will stay home and knit."-Napolean

"You know I would rather we just attempted to reform the Republic. This trying to be dictator could get a guy killed."-Julius Ceaser on March 14.
"General Wolfe is desperately seeking a last opportunity to attack us so, men, leave the harvesting and keep a sharp eye on the Foulon cliffs and the river below."

--French colonel Antoine de Bougainville to his men the eve of the battle of the Plains of Abraham, 1759

"You know, France lost over 74,000 men in Indochina, and this Diem fellow is not upholding democratic principles in South Vietnam. I don't think we should give him any military advisors. We can better face communism by sending humanitarian aid to areas in need."

--President Eisenhower to Allen Dulles of the CIA, 1956
"Suppose you were an idiot. And suppose that you were a member of Congress. But I repeat myself."

-- Mark Twain
